WTA Tour launches schedule to July

BY CHRIS DINSDALE

January 6, 2021 – July 11, 2021 – The partial WTA schedule – reflecting the ongoing uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic – features 31 tournaments, including the first three Grand Slam showpieces of the year and four WTA 1000 events in Dubai, Miami, Madrid and Rome.

Only the top eight players who collect the most ranking points over the calendar year will compete in the season-ending Shiseido WTA Finals, to be played in Shenzhen for the second time.

Points that contribute to the Race to Shenzhen ranking are accumulated in the Grand Slams, and the newly revamped WTA Tour (WTA Tour 1000 tournaments, WTA Tour 500, and WTA Tour 250).

Ranking points are awarded for each event — ranging from 2,000 for the winner of a Grand Slam tournament to 280 for the winner of a International series event.

Key dates:
Feb 8 Australian Open
May 23 Roland Garros
Jun 28 Wimbledon
